2 foreigners arrested for trying to enter military base

Two foreign nationals are currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody following an alleged attempt to breach a Marine Corps base earlier this month, according to officials who confirmed the incident on Thursday.

The security breach took place on May 3 at Quantico Marine Corps Base located in Virginia. A spokesperson for the base revealed that two individuals in a box truck were stopped at a gate by military personnel.

Upon questioning, the driver claimed they were making a delivery to the post office and worked for a company subcontracted by Amazon. However, as they lacked any affiliation with the base and did not possess approved credentials, they were directed to a holding area for further verification.

During this process, it was observed that the driver disregarded instructions from the officers and attempted to move the vehicle past the holding area to access Marine Corps Base Quantico. Captain Michael Curtis, the base spokesperson, stated, “Due to the swift response and execution of their duties, the officers were able to deploy the vehicle denial barriers, prevent any further access to Marine Corps Base Quantico, and detain the individuals who were eventually turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.”

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained during the altercation, and no weapons were found on the suspects. The breach was initially reported by the Potomac Local News.

When questioned about the incident, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that the two individuals, who are of Jordanian nationality, are currently being held in ICE custody. She emphasized that the matter is an active law enforcement issue and recommended reaching out to ICE for further details.

Following the security breach, the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Criminal Apprehension Program intervened and apprehended both individuals without any complications. They will remain in ERO custody until the commencement of removal proceedings.

This recent event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of stringent security measures in safeguarding military installations and the critical need for vigilance in preventing unauthorized breaches.

As the investigation unfolds and additional details emerge, it is imperative for all relevant agencies to collaborate effectively in ensuring the safety and security of military bases throughout the country.
