Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez unsure if Biden should withdraw from race

As the 2024 presidential race heats up, the debate surrounding Joe Biden’s potential candidacy has taken center stage. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) recently weighed in on the issue, stating that she has not yet seen a compelling case for Biden to drop out of the race.

Many Democrats have raised concerns about the 81-year-old President’s age and fitness to serve, particularly after his lackluster performance at a CNN debate in late June. Calls for Biden to step aside in favor of an alternative candidate have been growing, with some suggesting that Vice President Kamala Harris should take his place on the ticket.

Speaking on Instagram after Donald Trump’s speech at the GOP convention, Ocasio-Cortez expressed her reservations about calls for Biden to withdraw from the race. She emphasized the lack of a consensus on an alternative candidate and pointed out that many of those pushing for Biden’s exit are not in favor of Harris becoming the nominee.

Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the potential legal and logistical challenges that could arise if Biden were to step down. She underscored the importance of considering the stakes of the upcoming election, with ballot deadlines approaching and the possibility of GOP legal challenges that could reach the conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

The congresswoman criticized members of her own party who seem resigned to the idea of a defeat in November. She emphasized that her constituents, who would be disproportionately impacted by another Trump presidency, cannot afford to accept defeat.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed her belief that Biden is often underestimated politically, noting that he won the presidency by appealing to demographics that are not traditionally valued. She pointed out that while his weaknesses are apparent, his strengths are often overlooked.

Despite reports that Biden may be considering the possibility of stepping down, Ocasio-Cortez made it clear that she does not believe there is a viable alternative that would not pose significant risks. She urged Democrats to consider the implications of their decisions and to push forward with determination.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the future of the 2024 presidential race remains uncertain. With competing interests and varying opinions within the Democratic party, the path forward is far from clear. Only time will tell what lies ahead for Joe Biden and the potential contenders vying for the presidency.
