Angry Republicans say Biden gave in to anti-Israel protesters, while ‘Squad’ Democrats celebrate Rafah win.

President Biden’s recent announcement regarding the halt of offensive weapons shipments to Israel has sparked a significant backlash from House GOP members, while progressive Democrats are celebrating this move.

Republican lawmakers such as Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., have criticized President Biden for what they see as giving in to pressure from the left on issues related to Israel. On the other hand, progressives like Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., are viewing this decision as a victory. Rep. Waltz expressed his disappointment, stating, “Joe Biden is putting his fear of a hundred thousand progressives in Michigan ahead of the security of the U.S. and Israel. This is politics at its worst and sends a disgraceful message to our allies.”

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, also voiced his concerns, calling Biden’s decision a “dangerous mistake.” Additionally, Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., accused President Biden of bowing to pressure from protests on college campuses across the country.

Even GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., criticized Biden, saying, “Joe Biden is prioritizing appeasing the pro-Hamas base of the Democrat Party over returning American and Israeli hostages and supporting Israel’s right to exist.”

Members of the “Squad” on the left side of the political spectrum, such as Rep. Ilhan Omar, suggested that Biden’s shift in stance on Israel could be partly attributed to the protests on college campuses. Omar expressed her support for the protests, highlighting the impact of young voices in influencing policies.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., also expressed support for the ongoing protests, emphasizing the importance of standing up for what is right and the effectiveness of organizing and protesting in bringing about change.

The college protests have drawn criticism from both Republicans and a significant number of Democrats. However, progressive factions have continued to show solidarity with the students and activists on campuses across the country.

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s comments, particularly her controversial remarks about certain Jewish students, have led to a censure resolution filed by Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., following her visit to an anti-Israel encampment at Columbia University.

Overall, President Biden’s decision regarding offensive weapons shipments to Israel has ignited a heated debate between the GOP and progressive Democrats, highlighting the complexities surrounding U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.
