Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Strongly Supports Joe Biden Amid Calls for His Withdrawal

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a resolute endorsement of President Joe Biden on Monday, reaffirming her support for the 81-year-old leader despite growing concerns about his age and abilities.

Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent member of the progressive “Squad,” addressed reporters outside the Capitol and stated unequivocally that President Biden has no intention of stepping down in the face of criticism.

She recounted her conversations with the president, emphasizing that he had made it abundantly clear that he is committed to remaining in the race for the White House.

Referring to Biden as the Democratic nominee, Ocasio-Cortez declared, “The matter is closed. He is in this race, and I support him.”

However, concerns within the Democratic Party have been mounting since Biden’s lackluster debate performance a fortnight ago, prompting some of his colleagues to call for him to withdraw from the race.

Several Democratic lawmakers, including Mike Quigley of Illinois, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, Lloyd Doggett of Texas, Angie Craig of Minnesota, and Raul Grijalva of Arizona, have publicly urged Biden to reconsider his candidacy.

Despite these dissenting voices, Ocasio-Cortez stressed the urgency of defeating former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election as the top priority for Democrats.

Pointing to Trump’s numerous felony convictions, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the stark contrast between the two candidates, pointing out the lack of similar calls for Trump to step aside within the Republican Party.

When asked about lawmakers who expressed the need to see more from Biden, Ocasio-Cortez maintained her focus on winning in November, underscoring the importance of unity within the party.

As Congress reconvened for its first full week since the debate, Democratic lawmakers appeared divided in their responses to the situation, with some defending Biden and others redirecting their criticisms towards Trump.

Amidst the swirling controversies and calls for change, Ocasio-Cortez’s steadfast endorsement of Joe Biden echoes a clarion call for Democratic solidarity and a unified front against the current administration.
