Beshear addresses rumors about running for president

After the recent presidential debate between President Biden and former President Trump, concerns arose within the Democratic party about Biden’s performance and fitness to serve another term. Democrat figures and media outlets called for Biden to step out of the race and allow another Democrat to take his place. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, however, made it clear that he has no intention of running for president unless Biden decides to step down.

When asked about Biden’s debate performance, Gov. Beshear acknowledged that it was a rough night for the president. He highlighted that while the debate was concerning, only Biden himself can decide his future as a candidate. Beshear made it clear that as long as Biden remains in the race, he will continue to support him.

Despite not expressing interest in running for president, Gov. Beshear mentioned that he feels flattered when people mention his name as a potential candidate. He attributed this to the positive developments in Kentucky, including job creation, record-low unemployment rates, and decreases in overdose deaths. The governor emphasized that the success in Kentucky transcends political divides and showcases a better future beyond partisan clashes.

While reports indicate that Biden felt humiliated by his debate performance and lacks confidence, he remains in the race. Prominent Democrats have privately expressed concerns about Biden’s chances against Trump in November. However, publicly they continue to show support for the current president. Biden, during a recent fundraiser in New Jersey, admitted that he did not have a great night but highlighted that his conduct on January 6th resonated with voters.

Despite the mixed reactions to Biden’s debate performance, his campaign reported a significant fundraising amount of $27 million post-debate. It remains to be seen how the concerns raised by the debate will impact Biden’s campaign moving forward.

As the debate fallout continues to reverberate through political circles, the focus remains on Biden’s ability to secure another term and the potential for other Democrats to step up if he were to bow out of the race. The developments leading up to the November election will undoubtedly shape the future of the Democratic party and the presidential race.
