Biden ad opposes Trump’s plan to prosecute after Roe v. Wade

A new Biden-Harris campaign ad is shedding light on the potential future for women and individuals with the capacity for pregnancy if Donald Trump secures reelection this November. The one-minute ad focuses on Trump’s recent remarks indicating his intention to leave abortion rights to individual states and his approval of states monitoring pregnant individuals to prevent them from obtaining abortions. The ad features Dr. Austin Dennard, an OB-GYN from Texas, who had to leave the state to access abortion care following a fatal fetal diagnosis.

“If Donald Trump is reelected, it will mark the end of a woman’s right to choose,” Dennard solemnly declares to the camera. “There will be nowhere to turn. Our rights could be stripped away in every state, even in those where abortion is currently protected by law. This puts every woman in every state at risk.”

The Biden-Harris campaign has invested a significant seven-figure sum in airing this ad on the two-year anniversary of the leaked draft decision that hinted at the possible overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court. The ad is set to run in crucial battleground states nationwide, as indicated by the campaign team.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the Biden-Harris campaign manager, expressed grave concerns over the implication of Trump’s policies on women’s healthcare: “Over the past two years, we have witnessed a healthcare crisis unfold for women due to the actions of Donald Trump as president. If he secures a second term, the situation will only worsen. By endorsing state surveillance, monitoring, prosecution, and punishment of women seeking reproductive healthcare, he is putting women’s lives at risk.”

Trump’s reelection campaign has placed a significant focus on the issue of abortion, with Biden pledging to reinstate federal protections for abortion if he remains in office. Vice President Kamala Harris continues her “Fight for Reproductive Freedoms” campaign tour, recently speaking out in Florida following the implementation of a six-week abortion ban in the state. Harris had been in Arizona the previous month after the state Supreme Court approved a near-total abortion ban dating back to 1864.

Biden strongly condemned Trump’s stance on prosecuting individuals seeking abortion care in a video shared on Twitter: “There seems to be no limit to how invasive Trump would allow the state to be. The decision to seek abortion care should be between a woman and her doctor, and the government should not interfere in people’s personal lives.”

The looming 2024 election carries significant implications for women’s rights in America. With the threat of Roe v. Wade being overturned, restrictions on IVF in Alabama, and the resurrection of historic abortion bans, women’s rights are facing unprecedented challenges across the country.
