Biden did not mention son’s conviction in speech about gun control.

President Biden addressed a crowd of gun control advocates in Washington D.C., urging for an assault weapons ban and other measures to restrict access to firearms. However, he failed to mention his son Hunter Biden’s convictions for lying about his past drug use while purchasing a gun.

The president’s speech took place at the Everytown for Gun Safety’s annual training conference, which brings together gun safety advocates and survivors of gun violence. Biden highlighted the executive actions aimed at reducing gun violence, specifically focusing on addressing “ghost guns” and weapons trafficking.

Biden expressed his determination to ban assault weapons, questioning the necessity of magazines capable of holding 200 shells. He also criticized Republicans for opposing various gun control measures and their scrutiny of the ATF.

During his speech, Biden also addressed the meaning of the Second Amendment, stating, “There’s never been a time that says you can own whatever you want.” He referenced historical limitations on gun ownership, including the restriction on owning cannons during the Civil War.

Responding to Biden’s proposals, some critics argue that the bans on guns and magazines would only disadvantage law-abiding citizens against criminals. They advocate for focusing on prosecuting and penalizing violent offenders instead of restricting the rights of lawful gun owners.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden, the president’s son, was found guilty on all charges in a landmark criminal case related to his firearm purchase in 2018. The charges included making false statements during the gun purchase and unlawful possession of a firearm as a controlled substance user.

In a statement following the verdict, Hunter expressed gratitude for the support he received during the trial, emphasizing the possibility of recovery with divine grace.

The younger Biden was accused of providing false information on a federal firearm form by denying his status as an unlawful drug user or addict. The purchase was made at StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply in Wilmington, Delaware.

In light of his son’s conviction, President Biden is set to travel to Wilmington to deal with the aftermath of the trial. The White House confirmed his departure from Washington to Wilmington, where he will address the implications of the guilty verdict.
