Biden donors support backup plan after debate, call it a disaster: report

Donors who previously supported President Biden’s re-election bid are now starting to back a “Plan B” after his disastrous debate performance against former President Trump. The situation is being described as “Armageddon” as concerns rise over Biden’s ability to lead effectively.

Despite raising a substantial $264 million over the last three months, including an additional $27 million since the debate, Biden’s donors are expressing deep reservations about his performance on stage. One Democrat fundraiser stated, “Unless he shakes up the campaign and shows leadership, it’s going to be a really, really tough time with money.”

Reports suggest that donors are in a state of panic following the debate, with some creating Google Docs polls to gauge support for a “Plan B” option. Around 74% of respondents favored considering new Democratic presidential and vice-presidential candidates, while only 15% stood behind Biden, and 11% remained undecided.

John Morgan, a prominent Democratic donor, criticized the lack of planning and preparation Biden received for the debate, calling it “political malpractice.” He specifically blamed senior adviser Anita Dunn, former chief of staff Ron Klain, and Dunn’s husband, Bob Bauer, who serves as Biden’s personal lawyer.

Whitney Tilson, a former hedge fund manager and Democratic donor, shared a scathing text from a House Democrat regarding Biden’s debate performance. The text described it as a “catastrophe from which there may be no recovery.”

As concerns mount among Biden donors, calls for drastic changes within the campaign are growing louder. The number of people with access to the president has dwindled, prompting fears that the campaign may be spiraling into deeper troubles.

It remains to be seen how Biden’s team will respond to the mounting pressure from donors and strategists alike. The 81-year-old president faces a critical juncture in his re-election bid, with the need for a significant campaign shake-up becoming increasingly apparent.

As the dust settles following the debate, Biden’s ability to rebound from this setback will be closely watched by both supporters and critics. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining the future trajectory of his campaign and the fate of his presidency.
