Biden puzzled by Trump’s hurricane lies
President Biden Refutes Trump’s Claims of Neglect in Hurricane Response
A visibly frustrated President Joe Biden dismissed former President Donald Trump’s assertions that he had not communicated with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp regarding the aftermath of Hurricane Helene as “irresponsible.”
“He is lying. Let me be clear: He’s lying, and the governor has informed him of that,” Biden stated firmly from the Oval Office.
These comments from Biden came shortly after Trump made unfounded accusations that Kemp had been unsuccessful in reaching out to the president. Trump had claimed, “He’s been calling the president. He hasn’t been able to get him.”
However, Governor Kemp contradicted Trump’s claims, confirming that he had indeed spoken directly with President Biden. Kemp went on to mention that the president had encouraged him to reach out to the White House for any assistance required.
“I don’t know why he does this,” Biden added in reference to Trump’s false allegations. “And the reason I get so angry about this ― I don’t care what he says about me, I care about the message he conveys to those in need. He implies that we’re not doing everything possible… It’s simply not true, and it’s irresponsible.”
Before addressing reporters in Georgia about Biden supposedly withholding support, Trump took to social media to suggest that aid may be withheld from conservative areas of North Carolina, which had also been severely impacted by Hurricane Helene.
“I’ll be there shortly, but I don’t like the reports regarding the Federal Government and the Democrat Governor of the State going out of their way to neglect people in Republican areas. MAGA!” Trump stated on social media.
Subsequently, Trump proceeded to make further baseless allegations aimed at Biden’s administration, claiming, “They have abandoned Americans to perish in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and other parts of the South.”
In contrast to Trump’s accusations, the Biden administration has swiftly approved emergency requests from multiple states and deployed approximately 3,600 officials to aid in the recovery efforts across the affected region, which has tragically resulted in over 100 fatalities. President Biden also announced intentions to convene a special session of Congress to secure additional funding for relief efforts.
It is important to note that no governors from the impacted states have publicly criticized the White House response thus far, indicating a level of satisfaction with the federal government’s assistance.
