Biden Responds to Shooting at Trump Rally

The news of a shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, sent shockwaves across the nation on Saturday afternoon. President Joe Biden quickly released a statement confirming that he had been briefed about the incident and expressing relief that Trump was safe and doing well.

“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well,” read Biden’s statement, which was issued about an hour and a half after the shooting took place while Trump was speaking on stage. “I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” the White House’s statement continued. “Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety.”

“There’s no place for this kind of violence in America,” the statement emphasized. “We must unite as one nation to condemn it.”

Shortly after the initial statement was released, Biden spoke to the press and reiterated his condemnation of the violence. “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence, it’s sick,” the president stated. He mentioned that he had attempted to reach out to Trump and was hoping to speak to him that night. Biden also mentioned that Trump was receiving medical care and appeared to be in stable condition.

When asked if he believed Trump had been the target of an assassination attempt, Biden responded, “I have an opinion but I don’t have any facts.”

Following the shooting, a spokesperson for the Secret Service confirmed that Trump was safe and that the shooter had been killed. Tragically, a rally attendee also lost their life, according to media reports.

This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
