Biden says he will stay at White House

President Biden reassured a crowd of supporters on the Fourth of July that he has no intentions of dropping out of the election, despite facing challenges and making gaffes during unscripted events.

The president delivered his July 4th remarks from the White House’s South Lawn, speaking with the help of a teleprompter mostly without incident, save for one moment where he went off-script. Biden mentioned being at a World War I cemetery in France, where a former president did not want to go, adding, “At any rate, we got to just remember who the hell we are. We’re the United States of America.”

Despite the scrutiny and pressure for him to step down, the Biden campaign remains resolute in its stance that he will stay in the race. During the event, a supporter from the crowd called out to Biden, saying, “Keep up the fight. We need you!” To which Biden responded, “You got me, man. I’m not going anywhere.”

Following his debate performance on June 27 against former President Trump, Biden has faced increased scrutiny and calls to drop out of the 2024 election. At 81 years old, he is the oldest president in the country’s history, leading to concerns about his cognitive abilities and capacity to serve as commander-in-chief.

White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients held a meeting with all staff members to encourage them to focus on governing amidst the criticism. Zients acknowledged the challenging days post-debate but emphasized the accomplishments and track record of the Democratic administration, highlighting the importance of governing as the campaign season intensifies.

Biden’s gaffes and struggles have not deterred his campaign team, and he remains steadfast in his decision to continue running for president. As the election season progresses, the president’s determination to stay in the race is unwavering.
