Biden says Trump planned to use tear gas on Black protesters at George Floyd rallies

President Biden made a passionate plea to Black voters in Philadelphia, emphasizing his commitment to their community and highlighting the progress his administration has made since taking office. Speaking at Girard College, a historically Black school, Biden thanked Black voters for their crucial support in securing his victory in the 2020 presidential election.

During his speech, Biden outlined various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Black Americans, such as the removal of lead pipes to ensure safe drinking water, the reduction of pollution in fenceline communities, expanding access to affordable high-speed internet, and protecting the Affordable Care Act.

As the crowd cheered in support, Biden did not hesitate to criticize his predecessor, former President Trump. Biden condemned Trump’s response to the January 6th Capitol riot, where he referred to the insurrectionists as patriots and suggested pardoning them. Biden asked the audience to imagine how Trump would have reacted if Black Americans had stormed the Capitol, insinuating that Trump’s response would have been very different.

Referring back to the protests following George Floyd’s murder in May 2020, Biden highlighted the importance of peaceful demonstrations and condemned those who turned to violence. The protests in Philadelphia initially began peacefully but escalated into vandalism and looting, with various iconic locations in the city becoming targets for destruction.

Police officers had to intervene and don riot gear to control the situation, leading to clashes with protesters and several injuries among law enforcement. The unrest that followed Floyd’s death was not limited to Philadelphia but spread across the nation, with communities expressing outrage and demanding justice for Floyd and other victims of police brutality.

Biden’s visit to Girard College served as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for racial equality and justice in America. The president reaffirmed his commitment to uplifting minority communities and creating a more equitable society for all Americans.

As the nation continues to grapple with issues of race and inequality, Biden’s pledge to prioritize the needs of Black Americans resonates with many who have long sought meaningful change and progress. The events of 2020, from the protests in response to Floyd’s death to the tumultuous presidential election, have underscored the deep divisions in the country and the urgent need for unity and healing.

By addressing the legacy of systemic racism and promising concrete action to address the disparities that exist, Biden has positioned himself as a leader willing to confront the challenges facing the nation. His focus on issues like clean water, environmental justice, and healthcare access demonstrates a commitment to improving the lives of all Americans, especially those who have been historically marginalized and underserved.

As Biden seeks to build a more inclusive and equitable future, his message to Black voters in Philadelphia serves as a call to action for all Americans to come together and work towards a better tomorrow. By acknowledging the injustices of the past and striving for a more just and fair society, Biden is laying the foundation for a more united and prosperous nation.
