Biden to hold fundraisers and rallies in coming weeks

The Democratic National Convention is gearing up for an early roll call to officially nominate President Biden as their presidential candidate next month.

Last Friday, the DNC Rules Committee members voted in favor of a virtual roll call scheduled for August 7 to confirm Biden’s victory, despite concerns over his apparent mental decline.

With nearly 200 committee members set to convene on or before July 26 to formally adopt the virtual roll call format, the upcoming vote is expected to be a mere formality and a nod to the Biden campaign.

President Biden, despite battling illness, is already planning campaign events weeks ahead, getting ready to hit the ground running after a high-profile fundraiser.

The Biden-Harris ticket is hosting a fundraising event on July 29 in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, featuring special guests like talk show legend David Letterman and Hawaii Governor Josh Green.

Green, a close friend of the Bidens and a key political ally, has been serving as governor since 2022 and will be among the guests attending the event.

Recent reports from Axios have indicated that Biden is outlining his travel schedule as he recuperates from COVID-19 at his beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware. Despite calls from some members of his party to step down, Biden’s communications team held a remote press conference on Saturday to advocate for his re-election campaign.

Over 30 Democratic congress members, including Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, have called for Biden to step aside, emphasizing the need to focus on pressing issues facing the nation.

According to a senior Democratic official, the situation regarding Biden’s candidacy currently feels “stuck,” although there is a sense that this may change in the near future.

Reports suggest that senior officials are pressuring Biden to make a final decision promptly, engaging in ongoing discussions with his advisers on the best course of action for the party.

While many internally believe that the end of Biden’s candidacy is imminent, some key supporters are adamant about keeping him in the race, leading to a potential internal conflict within the party.
