Biden Wears Kansas City Chiefs Clothing for Team’s Visit to White House
Welcome back to the White House!” President Joe Biden exclaimed from the podium on the South Lawn, as the Super Bowl LVIII champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, stood proudly behind him. The tradition of hosting championship-winning sports teams at the White House continued as Biden honored the Chiefs for being the first team in 20 years to win back-to-back titles.
As Biden praised the Chiefs for their hard work and determination, he drew parallels between their success and the values of the nation. “We’re a great nation because we’re a good people,” Biden stated. “We never give up. We look out for one another. We leave no one behind. That’s America.”
Before inviting tight end Travis Kelce to the podium, Biden jokingly expressed some uncertainty about what Kelce might say. Kelce, known for his charismatic personality and dating pop sensation Taylor Swift, lightened the mood with his witty remarks. “My fellow Americans,” Kelce began, “It’s nice to see you all again. I’m not gonna lie, President Biden, they told me if I came up here I’d get tased. So I’m gonna go back to my spot, alright?”
Despite some uncertainty leading up to the event, kicker Harrison Butker, who had previously made controversial remarks about Biden, was seen in attendance along with his fellow teammates. The celebration proceeded smoothly and even saw President Biden playfully donning a Chiefs helmet, much to the delight of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Reflecting on the moment, Mahomes shared, “It was cool to see him put the helmet on. We didn’t expect that.” The camaraderie and lighthearted atmosphere at the White House gathering showcased the bond between the Chiefs and the nation’s leadership, highlighting the spirit of unity and celebration.
