Biden will not pardon son in federal gun trial

President Joe Biden made it clear on Thursday that he would not consider pardoning his son if he is found guilty on federal gun charges in Delaware. This statement reinforces the White House’s previous denial regarding the matter, as reported by ABC News.

During a sit-down interview from France, President Biden expressed his acceptance of whatever the outcome may be for Hunter Biden’s trial. The president is currently in Europe to commemorate the 80th anniversary of World War II’s D-Day.

Hunter Biden is currently facing three felony charges connected to a gun purchase he made in 2018, around the same time he was battling drug addiction. This purchase suggests that he may have provided false information on the weapon’s application and illegally possessed it.

Last summer, a potential plea deal involving the gun charges and other tax-related charges fell through. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre gave a definitive “no” when questioned whether President Biden would entertain the idea of pardoning his son.

Recently, opening arguments were presented in Hunter’s case. Hallie Biden, the widow of President Biden’s late son Beau, who passed away in 2015, testified that Hunter had purchased crack cocaine within 48 hours of acquiring the gun.

President Biden has continuously expressed unwavering support for his son throughout this legal ordeal.

His stance on the issue of using his pardon power for family members stands in stark contrast to the actions of former President Donald Trump. Trump had issued pardons to numerous allies, including Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, during the final weeks of his term.

Furthermore, Trump has been known to criticize the nation’s justice system whenever it does not align with his interests. Following his recent guilty verdict on 34 counts in his New York hush money trial, Trump maintained his innocence, referred to the judge as a “tyrant,” and accused him of being deceptive.

In response to these actions, President Biden addressed Trump’s trial, previously referring to his behavior as “reckless.”

“He’s attempting to undermine the legal process,” Biden stated during an interview with ABC’s David Muir. “He had a fair trial, and the jury has delivered its verdict.”
