Biden’s campaign raises $127 million in June, reassures donors after debate concerns.

President Biden’s reelection campaign has announced a record-breaking fundraising month, raking in an impressive $127 million from supporters in June. This surge in donations marks the most successful fundraising month for the campaign thus far, demonstrating strong support for the President’s bid for a second term. The campaign revealed that it currently holds a substantial $240 million across its committees as it heads into July, showcasing a significant increase from the previous month.

Despite facing criticism and political fallout following a rocky debate performance, President Biden’s campaign has managed to maintain momentum through its fundraising efforts. A recent CBS News poll indicated a decline in voter confidence regarding the 81-year-old President’s mental and cognitive health, adding a layer of challenge to the reelection campaign.

The campaign disclosed that 95% of donations received during the second fundraising quarter, spanning from April to June, were under $200. Additionally, a noteworthy 864,000 donors made their first contribution during this election cycle, underscoring the broad base of support for President Biden.

During the same period from April to June, the Biden-Harris campaign amassed a total of $264 million in donations. While it was outpaced by the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee in April and May, the Biden campaign saw a surge in financial support in June, with two major fundraising events contributing significantly to the total haul. A glamorous fundraiser in Los Angeles brought in $30 million, while a staggering $38 million was raised surrounding the debate day, setting a record for grassroots funding in just one hour following the debate.

Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez emphasized the critical role that fundraising plays in reaching and mobilizing voters, highlighting the pivotal nature of the upcoming election. The exact fundraising figures for both Biden and Trump campaigns in June are yet to be disclosed pending the official filing of reports later this month.

Following the debate, concerns regarding President Biden’s age and mental fitness were further amplified. A CBS News poll revealed a decrease in confidence among registered voters regarding the President’s ability to serve, contrasting with a more favorable perception of President Trump’s cognitive health. To counteract these concerns, the Trump campaign released an ad showcasing a more energetic Biden at a rally, aiming to project a sense of vigor and focus.

The Biden campaign has undertaken efforts to reassure donors and supporters, including a call led by campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon with over 600 participants. Internal polling conducted post-debate indicated that the horse race between Biden and Trump in battleground states remained unchanged, with Trump maintaining a slight lead in head-to-head matchups. Despite some wavering support among Biden’s 2020 voters post-debate, a majority continue to stand by the President in both multi-candidate and head-to-head scenarios.

As the campaign intensifies and the race for the presidency heats up, both the Biden and Trump camps are gearing up for a fierce battle ahead. With fundraising milestones reached and strategies evolving, the upcoming months are poised to be crucial in determining the outcome of the 2024 elections.
