Biden’s story about Hunter’s laptop falls apart as DOJ uses it as evidence
The narrative surrounding the “Russian information operation” that gained traction before the 2020 election faced a significant setback this week as Hunter Biden’s laptop was entered into evidence for his gun trial. Before the 2020 presidential election, a group of 51 former intelligence officials raised doubts about the authenticity of the laptop, suggesting it could have been fabricated by Russia to influence the election. It was later revealed that there was coordination between the Biden campaign and former intelligence officials in crafting the aforementioned memo, which eventually made its way to Politico. House Republicans confirmed this coordination through their investigation, shedding light on the behind-the-scenes efforts to discredit the laptop.
Andrew Bates, the current White House deputy senior press secretary who was previously a Biden campaign spokesperson, played a significant role in orchestrating the media pitch around the doubt of the laptop’s authenticity. Bates received the letter from former CIA senior adviser Nick Shapiro and promptly shared it with media outlets before publication.
Following the publication of the Politico article, Bates took to Twitter to assert that the “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo,” echoing the sentiments of other officials. This narrative was further propagated by individuals like Jen Psaki, who later became Biden’s White House press secretary, and Kate Bedingfield, Biden’s deputy campaign manager.
During the final debate against former President Donald Trump, Biden himself referenced the letter from former intelligence officials, labeling the laptop as a “Russian plant” and dismissing its contents as “garbage.” His adamant denial of the laptop’s authenticity was a focal point of his response to allegations surrounding Hunter Biden.
