Biden’s team responds to Trump’s strange music choice at RNC
Former president Donald Trump’s walk-on music during the third night of the Republican National Convention has caused a stir among Joe Biden’s team.
Upon Trump’s entrance to the Milwaukee event to the tune of the James Brown classic “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” on Wednesday, his successor’s reelection campaign quickly took to social media to highlight the choice of song.
Pointing to Trump’s track record on reproductive rights, a Biden campaign account tweeted, “Trump, who enacted abortion bans forcing teenage girls to carry unwanted pregnancies to term, enters the RNC to ‘It’s A Man’s World.’”
The former president has proudly touted his efforts to dismantle the Supreme Court’s landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which had protected abortion rights across the nation for many years, by appointing conservative justices during his presidency.
Some listeners have debated whether Brown’s soulful anthem is inherently sexist.
While the lyrics of the 1966 song attribute most of humanity’s achievements to men, Brown also sings: “This is a man’s world. But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl.”
Despite this, it is difficult not to see the song choice in the context of the Republican Party.
Trump is known for his specific preferences when it comes to music.
Earlier this year, Axios reported that the former president personally curates the playlist for his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The report in April stated that “Trump runs the surround-sound stereo system” on Mar-a-Lago’s patio using a “large iPad and its Spotify playlist.”
Axios humorously referred to the process as the “Deejay T” performance, as regulars at the resort jokingly call it.
According to sources, the song played during Trump’s entrance at the convention is one of his favorites.
In a video circulating online, he expresses his admiration for “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” as he plays a rendition of the song on his tablet while riding around in a golf cart.
