The FBI El Paso Violent Crime Task Force and Evidence Recovery Team were immediately deployed to gather evidence at the crime scene. The FBI is collaborating with the U.S. Custom and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility to investigate the assault on federal officers, but due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further details can be disclosed at this time.

Fortunately, no agents were injured during the shooting, and CBP has reassured the public that they are actively investigating the incident. CBP sources reveal that there have been 175,000 “known getaways” during this period, referring to individuals who have successfully avoided apprehension by Border Patrol but have been detected through other means of surveillance. On average, nearly 800 individuals are escaping apprehension at the border every day, posing significant challenges for border security efforts.
