Charlie Puth comments on Taylor Swift acknowledging him in “Tortured Poets Department”

Taylor Swift recently took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her time in the studio working on her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. In the photo posted by Swift, the CD version of the album has TTPD written in sharpie across it, giving fans a sneak peek into the creative process behind the record.

Following Swift’s post, singer-songwriter Charlie Puth shared another studio image of Swift with the album’s title written in black marker. While Puth did not include any sound or message in his post, many speculated that it was his way of expressing gratitude towards Swift for her kind words.

One of the standout tracks on The Tortured Poets Department features Swift singing about a humorous moment involving Puth. In the song, Swift sings about Puth smoking and eating seven bars of chocolate, leading to a declaration that Puth should be a bigger artist. Fans have also noted possible references to Swift’s rumored 2023 fling with The 1975’s Matty Healy in the lyrics of the title track.

The album has seen significant success, with The Tortured Poets Department earning 2.61 million equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending April 25. Traditional album sales accounted for 1.914 million of that total, including purchases of digital download albums, CDs, vinyl LPs, and cassettes. Impressively, vinyl sales made up 859,000 units, while the deluxe version of the album, featuring 31 tracks, generated 891.34 million on-demand official streams.
