Crowd at Harris rally chants ‘lock him up!’

At Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent rally as the presumptive Democratic nominee, a crowd fervently chanted “lock him up!” in support of her new presidential candidacy.

Harris, speaking at the rally in Wisconsin, drew on her background as an attorney general and prosecutor, stating, “I took on perpetrators of all kinds — predators who abused women, fraudsters who ripped off consumers, cheaters who broke the rules for their own gain. So hear me when I say I know Donald Trump’s type.”

The audience responded enthusiastically to Harris’ statement, breaking out into chants of “lock him up!” – reminiscent of the “lock her up!” chants heard at Donald Trump’s rallies in 2016 targeting Hillary Clinton.

Four years later, at Trump’s rallies referencing President Biden as a “criminal enterprise,” similar chants of “lock him up!” were heard. Despite the campaign rhetoric, no federal criminal proceedings were pursued against either Clinton or Biden during Trump’s presidency.

The revival of the “lock him up!” chant at Harris’ rally underscores her campaign’s early focus on highlighting her record as a prosecutor, contrasting it with a candidate recently convicted on multiple felony counts in New York.

Critics, however, have raised concerns about Harris’ complex history on crime. During her 2020 presidential campaign, her prosecutorial record was heavily criticized for being particularly harsh on those who committed low-level offenses.
