Democratic lawmakers will support Cori Bush as she fights for her political career.

Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., is receiving support from her fellow left-wing members of the House’s “Squad” as she faces a tough battle in the upcoming primary elections due to her anti-Israel comments. With just one day left before Election Day, a virtual rally is set to take place on Zoom at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. The event will feature Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., and Summer Lee, D-Pa.

One of the special guests at the rally is actor Hill Harper, who is running in the Michigan Senate Democratic primary against Bush’s more moderate colleague, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich. Bowman, who recently lost his primary to a moderate Democrat, is also throwing his support behind Bush at the event.

Bush, known as one of Congress’ most vocal critics of Israel, has been targeted by pro-Israel groups who are actively campaigning against progressive leftists like her. She has accused Israel of carrying out a genocide against Palestinians and has consistently voted against emergency funding for the country.

Despite facing opposition from within her own party, with groups like Democratic Majority for Israel backing her opponent, Wesley Bell, Bush remains focused on her primary race. Tlaib, another vocal critic of Israel in the House, is also rallying for Bush, despite her own run-ins with criticism over her remarks on the Middle Eastern country.

Bell, a prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County, is positioning himself as a more centrist alternative to Bush’s progressive policies. His campaign has received support from the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a bipartisan pro-Israel lobbying group.

As the primary election approaches, both Bush and Bell are garnering endorsements and support from various groups and individuals. Bush is backed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and his top deputies, while Bell received the endorsement of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial board.

It will be an important race to watch as Bush fights to hold onto her seat in the face of strong opposition from both pro-Israel groups and more centrist Democrats. Stay tuned for the results of the primary election and the future of the progressive movement within the Democratic Party.
