Democratic strategists believe Harris is the best practical choice as party leaders start to endorse her.

After President Biden’s announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris has quickly emerged as the frontrunner to succeed him, according to Democratic strategists. Leaders within the Democratic Party, including Biden himself, are already rallying around Harris, solidifying her position as the heir apparent.

Harris, who is considered “vetted and experienced” by strategists, has already navigated much of the Democratic primary process and is set to inherit the Biden campaign’s substantial infrastructure and $240 million war chest. The seamless transition from Biden to Harris has been emphasized by experts like Rubin, who believe that maintaining continuity is crucial for the party’s success in the upcoming election.

Strategist Antjuan Seawright echoed Rubin’s sentiments, calling for swift unity among Democrats to support Harris and remain focused on the party’s message moving forward. With endorsements from prominent figures like former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, and the Congressional Black Caucus, Harris has garnered significant support within the party.

Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race came after increasing pressure from fellow Democrats following a lackluster performance in the CNN Presidential Debate. Concerns about Biden’s capability to run a campaign and serve another term have prompted speculation about his successor, with Harris appearing as the most viable candidate to carry on the Biden-Harris administration.

While some Democrats have considered the possibility of a “mini-primary” process to select a new nominee, Harris has expressed her intention to step up and earn the nomination. Grateful for Biden’s endorsement, Harris vowed to continue campaigning across the country to unite the Democratic Party and defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

As the countdown to Election Day begins, all eyes are on Vice President Kamala Harris as she takes the lead in the Democratic Party’s bid for the White House. With a strong foundation of support, endorsements from key figures, and her own campaign momentum, Harris is poised to make history as the first female president of the United States.
