Democrats are making fun of Trump’s choices for Vice President.

Democrats are gearing up for a fierce media battle against former President Trump and his potential running mate picks. Their strategy revolves around branding these candidates as “extremist” and “ultra-MAGA” Republicans, in a bid to sway public opinion against them.

Trump himself has been tight-lipped about his VP selection, leaving a group of around six major candidates scrambling to distinguish themselves. Despite their individual efforts, Democrats aim to lump them together under a blanket of criticism, arguing that they all represent a continuation of Trump’s divisive policies, as per Axios reports.

The Democrats’ plan, dubbed “Trump’s MAGA Veepstakes,” seeks to highlight contentious issues such as election denial, abortion rights, healthcare, and taxation. Notably, none of the major contenders for Trump’s VP spot have publicly contradicted his baseless claims about the 2020 election, and they continue to enjoy widespread support among Republicans for the tax cuts implemented during Trump’s presidency.

On the issue of abortion, Trump has shifted slightly from his party’s stance, diverging from Republicans who advocate for a nationwide ban on abortions after 15 or 20 weeks. Instead, he asserts that individual states should have the authority to regulate their own abortion laws.

While Democrats are aiming to reinstate the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade at the federal level, top candidates for Trump’s VP slot are employing various tactics to distinguish themselves. For instance, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and Vivek Ramaswamy have taken the unusual step of attending Trump’s ongoing criminal trial in New York City.

Several prominent figures have been floated as potential VP choices, including South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Ohio Senator JD Vance, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

Despite facing legal challenges and maintaining a cryptic stance on his VP pick, Trump remains a key player in the Republican political landscape. He recently hinted at the possibility of delaying the announcement of his running mate until the Republican National Convention in July, held in Milwaukee.

One point of agreement between Trump and President Biden is a proposed debate, which would see a showdown between Vice President Harris and Trump’s eventual running mate. The stage is set for a high-stakes political contest as the 2024 election cycle gains momentum.
