Dickon Stainer is now in charge of Universal Music U.K. as Chairman and CEO.

Universal Music U.K. has undergone a significant leadership change with the appointment of Dickon Stainer as chairman and CEO, taking over from the long-serving David Joseph. Stainer, who previously held the position of president and CEO of Universal Music Group’s Global Classics and Jazz division, will now lead the overall management and strategic direction of Universal Music U.K. This transition was announced by Lucian Grainge in a memo to staff on Tuesday, expressing his confidence in Stainer’s ability to leverage the organization for artists and achieve global success. Grainge also extended his gratitude to outgoing CEO David Joseph for his contributions over the years.

Stainer expressed his honor at being chosen for this role by Sir Lucian Grainge, highlighting the talent within the company and the impressive roster of artists that Universal Music U.K. possesses. He emphasized the importance of the U.K. in the global music industry and his excitement to work with the team towards future accomplishments. Stainer’s new responsibilities include overseeing Island EMI Label Group, Polydor Label Group, Decca Records, the Audience and Media Division, as well as Abbey Road Studios. Additionally, he will continue as chairman of UMG’s Global Classics and Jazz division, with new leadership roles and promotions within these businesses set to be announced soon.

This leadership change at Universal Music U.K. follows the recent merger of its Island and EMI label divisions to form two new frontline label groups, Island EMI Label Group and Polydor Label Group, led by Louis Bloom and Ben Mortimer, respectively. The company is also launching the Audience and Media Division, headed by Rebecca Allen, to further support artists and labels. With these changes at the top, Universal Music U.K. is poised for a new chapter under the leadership of Dickon Stainer, bringing a wealth of experience and a vision for continued success in the industry.
