DOJ says Hunter Biden was paid to affect US policy by Romanian billionaire
Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is facing serious allegations from Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors. According to new documents filed by Special Counsel David Weiss, Hunter Biden was allegedly paid by a Romanian oligarch to influence U.S. policy and public opinion while his father was vice president. These allegations are the closest prosecutors have come to tying President Biden to his son’s overseas business dealings.
The documents filed by Weiss in the Central District of California reveal that Romanian businessman Gabriel Popoviciu is expected to testify against Hunter Biden in the upcoming tax trial set to begin on September 5 in Los Angeles. The filings state that Hunter Biden had entered into an oral agreement in 2015 to help Popoviciu contest bribery charges in Romania.
Prosecutors plan to introduce evidence showing that Hunter Biden and his business associate received compensation from a foreign principal in an attempt to influence U.S. policy and public opinion. The filings also allege that Hunter Biden and his business associate were concerned about potential political ramifications for his father related to their lobbying work.
According to the documents, Hunter Biden and his business associate signed a ‘Management Services Agreement’ with Popoviciu that purportedly provided management services to real estate properties in Romania, although this was not the actual nature of their business relationship.
Prosecutors claim that Hunter Biden and two business associates received over $3 million in payments from Popoviciu between 2015 and 2017. Hunter Biden is charged with failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019, as well as filing false tax returns. He allegedly used the funds for extravagant expenses, including drugs, escorts, luxury cars, and other high-priced items. However, he has since paid the taxes owed.
The tax case against Hunter Biden includes three felony charges and six misdemeanor charges. The pretrial hearing for the case is scheduled to take place on August 21 in Los Angeles.
Earlier in June, Hunter Biden was convicted by a federal jury in Delaware for lying about his illegal drug use while purchasing a gun. He is awaiting sentencing in that case.
These recent developments shed light on Hunter Biden’s international business affairs and raise questions about the potential implications for President Joe Biden. The upcoming trial will provide further insight into the allegations against Hunter Biden and the extent of his involvement in these controversial dealings.
