DOJ says they did not work together with Bragg’s office to prosecute Trump.
The Justice Department has vehemently denied any allegations of colluding with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in the prosecution of former President Trump, labeling such claims as “conspiratorial speculation” and “completely baseless.” In a letter to the House Judiciary Committee, the Department asserted that the notion of it being behind a so-called “politicized prosecution” by the District Attorney is unfounded.
Uriarte, representing the Justice Department, addressed a letter sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland from the Committee, expressing concerns about the perceived role of the Department in the Trump case. Uriarte stated, “The Department does not generally make extensive efforts to rebut conspiratorial speculation, including to avoid the risk of lending it credibility,” emphasizing the Department’s commitment to transparency in confirming the lack of merit in the allegations.
Responding to claims made by Jordan, the Justice Department conducted a thorough search for email communications between officials in the Department’s leadership and the District Attorney’s office regarding the investigation or prosecution of the former President. The search yielded no evidence of any such collusion or coordination between the two entities.
Uriarte reiterated that the District Attorney’s office operates independently from the Justice Department, highlighting the lack of supervision, approval, or control by one over the other. The assertion of a “self-justifying perception” by the Committee was dismissed as baseless, with Uriarte warning against accusations made without evidence that could undermine public trust in the justice system and pose risks to law enforcement officials.
The efforts by the Justice Department to dispel these speculations were portrayed as extraordinary, aimed at putting an end to the unfounded claims. The Department’s stance remained steadfast in upholding the integrity of the legal process and dispelling any false narratives surrounding the prosecution of former President Trump.
