Despite this, Lichtman argues that his prediction was still somewhat accurate as Gore won the popular vote and would have won the election if not for the contested results in Florida.

In the 2016 election, Lichtman was among the few who correctly forecasted Donald Trump’s win. He emphasized in his Guardian interview that his system is grounded in historical data, making it robust and reliable. However, he acknowledged the possibility of unforeseen events that could impact the election outcome.

One such event currently unfolding is Trump’s legal troubles, with the former president facing criminal trials and felony charges in multiple indictments. Despite this, a recent national poll shared by CNN shows Trump leading Biden by 6 percentage points, adding an element of uncertainty to the upcoming election.
