Elon Musk is working hard to help Donald Trump get reelected.
Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, has declared that his social media platform must maintain political neutrality when dealing with both the left and the right. However, as a private citizen, Musk is not shy about expressing his own political views, and he is actively working to support the election of Donald Trump.
Musk’s unwavering support for the Republican candidate was prominently displayed when he enthusiastically joined Trump on stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, jumping around with joy while wearing a black “Make America Great Again” hat. At 53 years old and a father of 12, Musk jokingly referred to himself as “dark MAGA” to the cheering crowd.
With a net worth of $242 billion, Musk has committed to giving away $1 million per day to voters who sign his political action committee’s petition in support of the Constitution. Legal experts have raised concerns about the legality of such a giveaway, with UCLA Law School professor Rick Hasen expressing doubts about its legality.
In addition to his financial contributions, Musk has also founded a political action committee called America PAC to bolster Trump’s campaign. Since its establishment in May, Musk has donated around $75 million to America PAC, with a significant contribution of $30 million in September alone, as per the Federal Election Commission filings.
Although Musk previously showed support for former President Barack Obama and made contributions to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, his recent involvement in politics, particularly in favor of Trump, has become more evident.
Analysis of Musk’s social media activity indicates an increasing focus on political figures like Trump and Biden following his acquisition of X. Musk’s posts now frequently reference Trump and Biden, surpassing his mentions of Tesla, his electric vehicle company, in recent months.
Despite Musk’s shifting political stance, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment on his increased engagement in political matters. Both X and Tesla did not respond to requests for comment regarding Musk’s political involvement.
Musk’s takeover of X aimed to uphold free speech principles but has raised concerns due to his actions after assuming control. Musk dismissed teams tasked with handling deceptive content and reinstated accounts, such as that of right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, under the guise of promoting free speech.
Alongside his efforts to secure a clear victory for Trump, Musk has been echoing disinformation propagated by Trump and some Republicans. During a campaign event supporting Trump, Musk reiterated debunked claims about Dominion voting machines, a move that aligns with the discredited narratives advanced by Trump.
Despite facing backlash for sharing misinformation, such as an AI-generated fake image depicting Kamala Harris as a communist dictator, Musk has remained vocal against Democratic politicians. His increasingly polarizing comments have led to advertiser pullouts from X and raised questions about his reconciliation with mainstream politics.
Musk’s relocation of X and SpaceX from California to Texas reveals his dissatisfaction with California’s political landscape, emphasizing factors like regulation and taxation as driving forces behind the move.
Musk’s alignment with Trump’s policies, including his vocal support for the former president and attacks on Democratic governance, have raised concerns among Tesla investors. The potential impact on Tesla sales, especially among a largely Democrat-leaning consumer base, underscores the risks associated with Musk’s political affiliations.
While Musk stands to benefit from a Trump presidency, particularly in terms of tax reductions and business interests, conflicts of interest and practical challenges may impede his capacity to juggle governmental responsibilities alongside his extensive business empire.
Both Trump and Musk have taken firm stances against transgender issues, further solidifying their alignment on social matters. Musk’s personal views on transgender matters have drawn criticism, with his child, who is transgender, publicly condemning his statements and actions. Musk’s donations toward anti-trans groups and his controversial comments regarding transgender individuals have fueled ongoing debates surrounding his social advocacy.
As Musk continues to navigate the intersection of business and politics, his evolving political engagement and alignment with Trump’s agenda underscore the complexities of managing influential platforms and personal beliefs in today’s polarized political landscape.
