Ex-Trump official in key Senate race responds to being left out of major endorsement.

Former Trump Official Dr. Jeffrey Gunter Faces Setback in Senate Run

A former U.S. ambassador to Iceland, Dr. Jeffrey Gunter, who is running for Senate in Nevada, recently suffered a blow when his former boss, ex-President Donald Trump, endorsed his primary opponent, former U.S. Army Capt. Sam Brown. Gunter had hoped to secure Trump’s support in his bid to turn Nevada into a red state, but unfortunately, that endorsement went to Brown instead, leaving Gunter and his supporters disappointed.

The race for Trump’s endorsement was intense, with both Gunter and Brown vying for the critical backing behind the scenes. Gunter, in a post on Monday, implied that the decision came down to financial contributions, a claim that the National Republican Senatorial Committee promptly dismissed as an unfounded attack on Trump.

The NRSC’s communications director, Mike Berg, criticized Gunter for his remarks, comparing him to a California Democrat and urging him to retract his statement. Gunter defended his position, stating that he fully supports Trump but has reservations about the former president’s advisers.

Despite the setback, Gunter remains optimistic about his campaign, saying that he is working hard to make Nevada great again as a true supporter of Trump’s policies. On the other hand, Brown’s campaign boasts of internal polling data showing him ahead of Gunter, who believes he is the best candidate to challenge Democratic incumbent Sen. Jacky Rosen in the general election.

While Gunter points to polls showing Rosen leading Brown, a recent New York Times survey indicated a tie between Brown and Rosen, with a significant number of voters still undecided. Little polling has been conducted on a potential matchup between Gunter and Rosen, making the outcome uncertain.

Gunter emphasizes his loyalty to Trump and his experience as an ambassador and a doctor, urging undecided voters to consider these factors as they decide at the polls. Rosen is expected to win the Democratic primary easily and will likely face either Brown or Gunter in the general election.

Republicans consider Nevada a crucial target for flipping the Senate majority from the Democrats, with the party currently holding a slight 51-49 edge. Gunter sees himself as the true ‘MAGA’ candidate, aligned with Trump’s vision for the country, and hopes to secure victory in the upcoming election.
