Fans of Taylor Swift donate $144k to support Kamala Harris’ campaign.

Taylor Swift fans have once again proven their dedication and influence, this time by spearheading a fundraising campaign for Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. The “Swifties for Kamala” movement has gained momentum, showcasing the power of both music fandom and political activism.

Even though Taylor Swift has not made any formal political endorsements, her fans, known as Swifties, along with influential figures in politics, have stepped up to support Senator Harris. The collective effort has resulted in a substantial amount of money being raised for Harris’ Democratic campaign, with notable figures like Senator Elizabeth Warren lending their voices to the cause.

The “Swifties for Kamala” movement held a virtual call on Zoom, attracting a significant turnout of over 34,000 participants. As of Wednesday, the group had successfully raised over $144,000, showcasing the dedicated support of Taylor Swift’s fanbase. With a strong presence on social media platforms like X and Instagram, the group has garnered a following of over 73,000 and 48,000 respectively.

One of the organizers highlighted the impact of harnessing the collective power of the fandom, stating, “We’ve seen the good we can do as a fandom and what happens when we mobilize our community. We don’t need to wait to make a difference.” The organizer emphasized the alignment of the group’s values with both their own and Taylor Swift’s values, asserting that the singer has been vocal about her stance against the current administration and her intention to vote for change in November 2020.

Taylor Swift’s political engagement and the activism of her fanbase demonstrate the intersection of music, celebrity influence, and social change. As the “Swifties for Kamala” campaign continues to gain traction and support, it underscores the importance of grassroots movements and the mobilization of communities towards a common goal.
