FBI Director questioned about 8 ISIS-linked people who crossed the border into the US and were released
Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., recently expressed deep concern about how eight Tajikistan nationals suspected of having ties to ISIS were able to cross the border illegally and enter the United States before being arrested in major cities across the country. Moran penned a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, demanding answers on this matter.
Moran highlighted the shared concern between himself and Wray regarding suspected terrorists and watch-list individuals infiltrating the U.S. border. In his letter, Moran referenced Wray’s recent testimony before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, where Wray underscored the challenges posed by individuals armed with fake documents or insufficient derogatory information to be placed on a watch list.
Given that the eight Tajikistan nationals with ISIS connections were arrested in New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in collaboration with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Moran pressed Wray to explain how these individuals managed to enter the country despite their suspicious backgrounds.
With his position as the vice chair of the subcommittee, Moran asked Wray if the issues outlined in his testimony applied to this particular case and what steps the FBI could take to prevent suspected terrorists and watch-list subjects from reaching major cities or other parts of the U.S.
Moran expressed readiness to work with Wray to address this critical issue, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of the American people amid the administration’s immigration and parole policies that place a significant burden on intelligence and law enforcement agencies.
