Five members of the Trump family will represent Florida at the Republican National Convention.
Barron Trump, the former first son, grabbed headlines when reports suggested he would be stepping into the public eye as a delegate to the Republican National Convention. However, in a surprising turn of events, Barron declined the opportunity to serve as a delegate late on Friday. Despite this, five more Trump family members are set to be present in Milwaukee to cast votes for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Two of the Trump Organization’s executive vice presidents, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, were chosen by the Republican Party of Florida as statewide “at-large” delegates for the convention. Additionally, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée, Tiffany Trump (the former president’s only child with ex-wife Marla Maples), and Tiffany’s husband Michael Boulos, were also selected to be part of the Florida delegation.
Both Barron Trump and Tiffany Trump have typically opted to stay away from the public limelight, especially now as their father navigates a series of legal challenges in New York, Atlanta, South Florida, and Washington, D.C.
In a statement released on Friday from former first lady Melania Trump’s office, it was mentioned that Barron had declined the opportunity to be a delegate due to prior commitments, despite feeling honored to have been chosen by the Florida Republican Party.
In recent years, much of the Trump family has shifted from New York City to Florida. Their primary residence is now considered to be Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, where the former president has settled after many years at Trump Tower in Manhattan.
When the move took place in 2019, President Trump expressed his fondness for New York while also stating that he felt mistreated by the city and state’s political leaders. Despite having paid millions of dollars in taxes over the years, he felt unappreciated.
Currently, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. are based in Jupiter, Florida, a few towns north of Mar-a-Lago. As of Friday, the former president has accumulated over 2,000 delegates, exceeding the 1,215-delegate threshold required to become the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who halted her presidential campaign on March 6, garnered significant support in Pennsylvania’s closed primary in April. She still holds a total of 97 delegates, showcasing her influence within the party.
Other notable candidates who earned delegates before dropping out of the race include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Eric Trump is set to lead the Sunshine State delegation as chairman, with Kimberly Guilfoyle being appointed as one of two commissioners on the platform committee.
The Republican Party of Florida is gearing up for an exciting convention in Milwaukee, with hopes of securing a victory in November. The groundwork being laid in Florida indicates a strong position for success.
