Forecasters predict that Harris is gaining support in key states after Biden leaves race.

Vice President Kamala Harris is making significant strides in key battleground states that are likely to shape the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Election forecasters at the Cook Political Report and the Center for Politics have noted a shift in poll averages favoring Harris by approximately 3 points. Notably, states such as Georgia, Minnesota, and New Hampshire have seen a shift in their political leanings towards Democrats, further solidifying Harris’ standing.

Since President Biden stepped aside from the race, Harris has closed the gap between her and former President Trump in multiple polls, now surpassing him in general election projections. The surge in Democratic enthusiasm following Harris’ nomination as the party’s candidate has been evident, propelling her campaign forward.

However, as with any political race, challenges and criticisms have arisen for Harris. Many analysts warn that the initial excitement surrounding her candidacy may fade over time. One major point of contention is Harris’ perceived lack of transparency with the press. Despite attending various events and delivering informal remarks to reporters, she has refrained from conducting a formal press conference or engaging in wide-ranging interviews since Biden’s departure from the race. Additionally, her absence at the National Association of Black Journalists’ convention raised eyebrows, especially as Trump took the stage for a lively question-and-answer session.

Recently, Harris made headlines by selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, yet the duo has not undergone formal interviews or press conferences. This has not gone unnoticed by GOP vice-presidential candidate Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who has called out the media for what he perceives as a lack of diligence in holding Harris accountable. Vance, speaking at a rally in Detroit, implored reporters to demonstrate more assertiveness and encouraged Harris to engage more directly with the press.

In contrast, Trump himself has criticized Harris for allegedly relying too heavily on her teleprompter and avoiding direct interaction with the public, drawing parallels to Biden’s approach during the previous election cycle.
