Four senior House Democrats want Biden to drop out of the presidential race, sources report.

After a recent debate performance that left some House Democrats feeling skeptical about President Biden’s re-election chances, a group of senior Democrats has reportedly suggested that he should end his campaign. According to sources, Representatives Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Adam Smith, and Joe Morelle expressed their concerns during a Zoom meeting with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Additionally, Representatives Jim Himes, Don Beyer, and Jamie Raskin also reportedly showed doubt about the president’s electoral prospects.

It seems that the internal discussions within the Democratic Party have intensified following a call last week, where there were growing calls for President Biden to step aside. Representative Angie Craig, representing a frontline district in Minnesota, recently joined the chorus of Democrats urging the president to withdraw from the race. As lawmakers return from recess this week, all eyes will be on the president’s support within Congress.

Despite the mounting pressure, President Biden has shown defiance, indicating his intention to stay in the race. In an interview with ABC News, he dismissed the idea of stepping down, stating confidently that party leaders in Congress would not demand his withdrawal. The president also highlighted discussions he had with Jeffries, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Democratic governors, emphasizing his commitment to continuing his candidacy.

On a different front, Senator Mark Warner of Virginia has reportedly been engaging with colleagues to explore ways to persuade President Biden to step aside and allow other candidates to seek the nomination. While no formal plans have been outlined yet, these discussions underscore the ongoing internal debate within the Democratic Party.

It is clear that the upcoming weeks will be critical for the president’s re-election bid as internal dissent within the party continues to grow. As the political landscape evolves, President Biden’s decision to maintain his candidacy in the face of mounting pressure showcases his determination to forge ahead despite the challenges.
