Four top aides in Speaker Johnson’s office are leaving.

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office is facing a significant shakeup as four of his top aides have announced their departure within a 24-hour period, just seven months after he assumed the role of leading the House of Representatives. This sudden exodus includes Specht, Yaworske, and Hill, who previously worked in the office of ousted former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Raj Shah, one of Johnson’s early and crucial hires, expressed his desire to finalize matters with his team in Johnson’s office before stepping down. The news of the aides’ departures was first reported by Punchbowl News on Tuesday morning, with Shah’s planned exit disclosed by Axios later that same evening.

This staff overhaul is a significant development for the relatively new leadership office, especially since it comes less than six months before the crucial November 2024 elections. With House Republicans already facing a tough battle to maintain their narrow majority, this wave of resignations adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious political landscape.

A recent survey conducted by The Economist and YouGov revealed that if the elections were held today, Democrats would hold a slight edge over Republicans. In response to the question of who they would support on a generic ballot in their districts, 45% of respondents indicated a preference for a Democrat, while 42% favored a Republican. The remaining 9% remained undecided, according to the poll results.

As the political climate continues to heat up, the upcoming elections will undoubtedly be a crucial turning point for both parties. Follow along on Twitter at @liz_elkind for the latest updates and insights, and feel free to send any tips or information to elizabeth.elkind@fox.com.
