Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, a Republican, has made a bold move by endorsing President Joe Biden over Donald Trump in this year’s election. In an editorial for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Duncan stated, “This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass.”

Duncan firmly believes that the Republican Party cannot move forward until it distances itself from Trump, whom he accuses of disqualifying himself through his conduct and character. He highlighted Trump’s current trial over hush money payments to Stormy Daniels and his role in promoting unfounded conspiracy theories that led to the disturbing events of January 6, 2021.

Addressing concerns about issues such as higher taxes and campus unrest, Duncan acknowledged the challenges but criticized Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his exacerbation of racial tensions during the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020.

Refusing to endorse Trump’s conspiracy theories following the 2020 election, Duncan has remained a vocal critic of the former president, even going as far as comparing him to an “ax murderer” and warning his supporters of the potential consequences of aligning with Trump.

Despite being approached by No Labels to run as a third-party candidate, Duncan declined. His unwavering support for Biden reflects his belief in the need to move away from the divisive politics of the past.
