George Stephanopoulos impresses with his first question at the Biden-Trump debate.

Welcome to the Boston Post News Network, where we bring you the latest updates on the political landscape. In a recent interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, it was revealed that he might not be able to moderate one of the 2024 presidential debates between President Joe Biden and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, due to Trump’s defamation lawsuit against him. However, Stephanopoulos expressed his willingness to take on the role if given the opportunity.

During an appearance on the “Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, Stephanopoulos shared what his first question to both candidates would be: “Who won the last election?” This question holds particular significance as Trump continues to claim, without evidence, that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

Biden and Trump have agreed to participate in debates in June and September. Stephanopoulos praised Biden’s decision to engage in the debates, calling it an “interesting” and “bold move” and noting that the set rules could have a significant impact on the outcome. Colbert also commended the conditions set for the debates, highlighting the absence of an audience and the automatic cut-off of microphones when a speaker’s time is up.

Stephanopoulos raised concerns about the debates actually taking place under these rules, but emphasized the importance of such regulations. He also revealed a new approach to interviewing guests who echo Trump’s election falsehoods and refuse to acknowledge the results of the 2024 election.

“If they can’t answer those questions, I’m not going to move on to other topics like tax policy or environmental policy,” Stephanopoulos explained to Colbert.
