GOP Senators question security at Quantico after attempted breach.
Exclusive: A group of Republican senators has raised concerns and demanded more information from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas about the recent incident involving two Jordanian nationals who tried to breach Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.
In a letter signed by Sen. Ted Budd, R-N.C., the senators expressed their alarm over the incident and other similar security breaches that have occurred in recent months. They pointed out the stark contrast between Mayorkas’ assurances to Congress about border security and the actual threats posed by individuals exploiting the Biden administration’s immigration policies.
The two Jordanian nationals attempted to enter Quantico by posing as Amazon drivers, but their true identities and motives remain unknown as ICE has not revealed any details to the public. Both men are currently in ICE custody awaiting removal proceedings, despite having no prior criminal records in the U.S.
The senators raised questions about whether one of the individuals was on a terrorist watch list and highlighted other incidents, such as a Chinese national’s illegal attempt to break into a military base in California. These security breaches underscore the potential risks posed by individuals taking advantage of the relaxed vetting standards under the current administration.
House Republicans have also joined in the calls for answers, with Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark E. Green, R-Tenn., and other committee leaders demanding accountability from Mayorkas and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. The House letter expressed concerns about the vulnerability created by lax border policies and the surge of inadmissible migrants who could be exploited by those seeking to undermine national security.
The Senate letter noted that similar incidents involving Chinese nationals attempting to access U.S. military installations have occurred multiple times, raising further alarms about the growing frequency of security breaches. The senators highlighted the need for stricter border enforcement and vetting procedures to prevent unauthorized individuals from infiltrating sensitive military facilities.
With increasing reports of encounters with individuals on terrorist watch lists and a surge in Chinese nationals attempting to cross the southern border, the senators emphasized the urgent need for heightened vigilance and security measures to protect national interests and prevent potential threats.
The letter was signed by a group of prominent Republican senators, including Kevin Cramer, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, J.D. Vance, Roger Wicker, Mike Braun, Marco Rubio, Mike Lee, Roger Marshall, Ted Cruz, John Hoeven, and John Kennedy. Their united call for transparency and accountability reflects the growing concerns over national security risks posed by individuals exploiting vulnerabilities in the immigration system.
