Gorsuch warns to be cautious about Biden’s Supreme Court plans

Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch recently shared his thoughts on President Biden’s proposals to overhaul the Supreme Court. In a brief message, Gorsuch emphasized the importance of having a ferociously independent judge and a jury of peers in moments when the government may be coming after individuals. He urged Americans to be cautious and protect their rights, stating, “Isn’t that your right as an American?”

Both President Biden and Vice President Harris are pushing for Congress to enforce term limits and a code of conduct on the Supreme Court. Additionally, they are working on drafting limits on presidential immunity, according to a White House official in late July.

During a recent interview, Gorsuch expressed his concern about the excessive number of laws in the U.S., making it challenging for both individuals and the government to keep track of them all. He co-authored a book titled “Over Ruled: The Human Toll of Too Much Law,” highlighting how an abundance of laws can lead to unintentional violations by ordinary Americans trying to live their lives peacefully.

Gorsuch cited the example of problems Americans faced when seeking information from the IRS hotline, where incorrect answers were provided about a third of the time due to the complexity of the tax code.

Addressing conflicts with other branches of government, Gorsuch stressed the importance of relying on the Constitution as the ultimate solution. He emphasized the need for Americans to trust each other and to understand that not every issue requires intervention from a distant government.

Reflecting on the need for unity and finding common ground, Gorsuch quoted his friend, retired Justice Stephen Breyer, saying, “If I listen to almost anyone talk for long enough, I’m gonna find something they say that we can agree on.” This sentiment suggests a starting point for constructive dialogue and collaboration.

Despite the complexities and challenges posed by an excess of laws, Gorsuch’s message encourages Americans to uphold their rights, advocate for judicial independence, and strive for a society where trust and cooperation prevail over unnecessary government intervention.
