Harris beats Trump in excitement in 3 states
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are currently engaged in a close race in three pivotal battleground states as they prepare for their upcoming debate. However, Harris seems to be leading in certain aspects, such as the “excitement factor.” Recent data from a CBS News poll reveals that Democrats in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin are more excited about Harris’ campaign than Republicans are about Trump’s.
Statistics show that 89% of Democrats in Michigan, 82% in Pennsylvania, and 87% in Wisconsin are enthusiastic about Harris’ campaign. In comparison, 78% of Republicans in Michigan, 75% in Pennsylvania, and 76% in Wisconsin share the same level of excitement for Trump’s campaign.
The dynamics of the Democratic ticket shifted significantly following President Biden’s exit from the campaign in July, causing a stir just months before Election Day. Democrats are striving to maintain the momentum and excitement as they approach November.
Currently, Democrats in the battleground states are equally likely as Republicans to express definite voting intentions, indicating Harris’ successful consolidation of support within her party’s base. Although Harris has garnered immense support from Democrats, especially after formally accepting the nomination and raising a substantial $540 million in August, Trump maintains an edge in crucial areas like the economy and inflation.
A noteworthy shift since the June faceoff between Biden and Trump is the public perception of the cognitive and mental health of the candidates. Harris is now perceived by a larger percentage of the population to possess the necessary mental acuity for the role compared to Trump. In Michigan, 64% favor Harris on this aspect, as opposed to 47% for Trump. Pennsylvania shows a similar pattern, with 64% supporting Harris and 49% preferring Trump. The widest margin is seen in Wisconsin, where Harris leads Trump by 20 points on this issue.
The Harris campaign has been actively trying to manage expectations, acknowledging the energized support behind the campaign while emphasizing the challenging road ahead. Campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon recently stated in a memo that despite the enthusiastic response in terms of fundraising and volunteer engagement, they still consider themselves as the underdogs as they head into the final stretch of the race.
As the battle for the presidency intensifies, it remains to be seen how the candidates will leverage the current excitement and support to secure victory in these critical battleground states.
