Harris campaign clarifies Walz biography amidst controversy.

Breaking News: The Harris campaign has made modifications to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s biography on its website following ongoing scrutiny regarding his military service. The alteration involved changing his title from a “retired Command Sergeant Major” to someone who “served as a command sergeant major.”

Vice President Kamala Harris recently announced Walz as her vice presidential running mate, sparking criticism and attacks on his background as a governor, lawmaker, and National Guard member for almost 25 years.

Walz had reached the rank of Command Sergeant Major when he left the Guard, but upon retirement, he was demoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. This downgrade was due to not fulfilling all necessary requirements, such as attending coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, before retirement. The reduction in rank was primarily for benefits-related reasons and technicalities.

However, Republicans have accused Walz of partaking in acts of “stolen valor.”

Senator JD Vance, a Marine Corps veteran and former President Trump’s running mate from Ohio, called out Walz for allegedly fabricating his military service record.

“Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. If I were in your shoes, I’d be ashamed of myself for lying about my military service,” Vance remarked, pointing fingers at Walz for allegedly avoiding serving in the Iraq War by leaving the National Guard.

Vance criticized Walz for using his military background to advocate for gun control measures, questioning the governor’s authenticity and actions.

The Harris campaign has stood by Walz’s military record, emphasizing his 24 years of service and subsequent advocacy for veterans and active-duty personnel during his time in Congress.

Despite the controversy and backlash, Walz’s nomination as the Democratic vice presidential candidate still stands, awaiting further developments and responses from both sides.
