Harris campaign ignores critics of controversial fundraising effort
It has been reported that the Harris campaign is facing criticism for their fundraising efforts that target individual races and genders. Despite the backlash, the campaign defends this strategy as a normal part of their campaign work.
Following Kamala Harris’ elevation to the top of the ticket, the campaign has organized several fundraisers. These events have featured titles such as “Win with Black Men,” “White Dudes for Harris,” and “Karens for Kamala,” aiming to attract a diverse range of supporters.
However, critics on social media have not held back, accusing the campaign of promoting segregation and focusing too much on race. One user even remarked, “The Kamala Harris campaign is bringing segregation back in style again.”
The upcoming “White Dudes for Harris” event has received significant backlash, with some calling it “racist” and “cringy.” Others have criticized the event as being condescending and targeting men perceived as weak or soft.
Despite the criticism, the unique Zoom fundraisers have been somewhat successful. Close to 100,000 Black individuals have raised nearly $2 million, and over 160,000 white women participated in the “Karen’s for Kamala” call.
In response to the backlash, the Harris campaign has pointed out that former President Donald Trump has also utilized similar tactics. Trump’s allies in Congress have held events tailored towards the Black community, such as “Cigars, Cognac, and Congress,” in predominantly Black neighborhoods.
Additionally, Trump’s campaign has made efforts to court Hispanic voters by rebranding their outreach to launch “Latino Americans for Trump” at a rally in Las Vegas. This new slogan emphasizes that Latinos are Americans first and foremost.
Overall, both the Harris campaign and Trump campaign have engaged in targeted fundraising strategies to appeal to specific demographic groups in their efforts to secure support and funding for their respective campaigns.
