Harris thanks Biden for his service to the nation

Vice President Kamala Harris recently made her first public remarks following President Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 race and endorse her for the Democratic nomination. In her speech, Harris expressed her deep gratitude towards Mr. Biden for his unwavering service to the nation, stating, “I am a firsthand witness that every day, our President Joe Biden fights for the people, and we are deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation.”

Despite his absence at the event, Harris reassured the audience that Mr. Biden is feeling much better and recovering quickly from his battle with COVID-19. She mentioned that he eagerly anticipates returning to his usual duties and getting back on the road soon. Harris also took a moment to highlight Mr. Biden’s unparalleled legacy, describing it as “unmatched in modern history.”

Furthermore, Harris reminisced about her longstanding relationship with Mr. Biden, recalling how she first connected with him through his late son, Beau Biden, who served as the Delaware Attorney General while she was the Attorney General of California. Beau Biden tragically passed away in 2015, leaving a lasting impact on both Harris and Mr. Biden.

The announcement of Mr. Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race sent shockwaves through the political landscape, with many key Democrats rallying behind Harris as she steps up to lead the party towards the 2024 election. While influential figures such as former President Barack Obama and congressional leaders like House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi have not yet endorsed Harris, she continues to garner support from various corners of the Democratic party.

As the Democratic National Convention approaches in August, delegates will play a crucial role in selecting Mr. Biden’s successor, paving the way for a new era of leadership within the party. With Harris at the helm, the nation eagerly anticipates the unfolding of the 2024 presidential race and the Democratic nominee’s journey towards the White House.
