Harris to share medical records in push for Trump to do the same
Vice President Kamala Harris is gearing up to release her medical history and records this Saturday, a move that will undoubtedly stir up the political arena. The campaign is strategically planning to shift the focus onto former President Donald Trump, prompting him to disclose his own health records.
According to a senior aide within Harris’ camp, the report will affirm the 59-year-old Vice President’s physical and mental resilience, reassuring the public of her ability to serve as president if the need arises.
While the extent of detail in Harris’ medical records remains uncertain, her team views this release as an opportunity to redirect the discourse towards the physical health and mental acuity of her opponent, the 78-year-old Trump. Harris’ advisors are poised to draw comparisons between her age and that of Trump, challenging him to reveal more recent health information.
During the 2020 campaign, Harris did not disclose her medical records, a decision that is now being revisited. In contrast, in November 2023, Trump shared a letter from his doctor, Dr. Bruce Aronwald, attesting to his excellent overall health following an examination in September of that year. However, notable specifics regarding his vitals or medications were conspicuously absent from the disclosure.
Speaking to CBS News in August, Trump expressed his willingness to release his medical records, asserting that he had recently undergone a medical examination and received a “perfect score.”
If Trump were to secure victory in November, he would become the oldest president in U.S. history by the conclusion of his term. The Harris campaign’s strategy to highlight Trump’s age resonates with the Republican approach towards President Biden during his candidacy.
Throughout Biden’s campaign, Trump’s team frequently circulated clips showcasing the president’s moments of physical weakness, such as stumbling on the stairs of Air Force One or verbal missteps. Biden eventually withdrew from the 2024 race in July amidst Democratic discord and doubts surrounding his capacity to serve a full second term.
The tipping point came during a June debate where Biden, 81, exhibited signs of aging, characterized by a hoarse voice and faltering responses. Leveraging social media platforms, Harris’ campaign has seized on instances where Trump appears to struggle with his speech or coherence.
One notable post from the Kamala HQ X account in August read, “Americans are tired of your lies and slur-filled delusions. It’s getting…old,” encapsulating the campaign’s strategy to underscore Trump’s age-related vulnerabilities.
