House Democratic leaders support Anti-Israel ‘Squad’ member in re-election campaign.

Rep. Cori Bush, a member of the progressive “Squad,” is facing a tough primary election against a more moderate pro-Israel opponent. However, she recently received a significant endorsement from House Democratic leadership, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar.

In a joint statement, the trio expressed their support for Bush, highlighting her efforts in advocating for issues such as reproductive freedom, gun violence prevention, and affordable housing. They emphasized their commitment to working towards improving the lives of everyday Americans and fighting against the extreme agenda of the Republican party.

Bush expressed her gratitude for the endorsement in a celebratory post on Instagram, indicating her pride in receiving support from such prominent figures within the Democratic Party.

As a two-term progressive Democrat, Cori Bush is known for being a vocal critic of Israel and its actions in Gaza. She has accused the Israeli government of committing genocide against Palestinians and has consistently voted against emergency funding for Israel. This stance has garnered opposition from within her own party, with groups like Democratic Majority for Israel supporting her opponent, Wesley Bell.

Bell has also received backing from the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a bipartisan pro-Israel lobbying organization. Despite facing criticism and opposition, Bush remains steadfast in her beliefs and continues to advocate for her positions on Israel and other important issues.

Earlier this year, Bush revealed that she was under investigation by the Justice Department, Federal Election Commission, and House Ethics Committee due to her husband’s paid role as a member of her security detail. She refuted claims of misusing campaign funds for personal security services and reiterated her compliance with all laws and regulations governing federal elected officials.

House Democratic leaders have made it clear that they intend to support all incumbents, including progressive lawmakers like Cori Bush. This commitment to unity within the party comes amidst growing divisions over issues related to Israel and other contentious topics.

Bush’s primary election is scheduled for August 6th, with the outcome holding significant implications for the future of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Her campaign follows in the wake of Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s recent defeat, marking the first time a “Squad” member has been ousted from the House due to their anti-Israel positions.

Despite facing challenges and scrutiny, Cori Bush remains resolute in her dedication to her constituents and her causes. Her ability to rally support from influential figures within the Democratic Party reflects her standing within the political landscape and underscores the ongoing debates around issues of Israel and progressive politics.
