House GOP military veteran says Trump’s task force is missing an important part
Former Navy SEAL Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., has raised concerns about the lack of experienced members on the bipartisan House task force appointed to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump. Crane, along with Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., and Rep. Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas, believe that their backgrounds in military and sniper training would have added a crucial perspective to the committee.
Crane emphasized the need for expertise in dealing with the circumstances of the shooting, where a 20-year-old gunman fired at Trump from a distance of 400 to 500 feet before being taken out by a Secret Service sniper. As a former Navy SEAL sniper, Crane pointed out the importance of understanding counter sniper tactics, advanced work, and ballistics in such situations.
The task force, which consists of six Democrats and seven Republicans, was established by House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., following a unanimous vote in the House. However, Crane and Mills are planning to initiate a separate investigation to ensure all aspects are thoroughly examined.
Rep. Cory Mills expressed the need for an independent investigation with the involvement of subject matter experts and whistleblowers who have come forward. They believe that the current task force lacks certain essential perspectives and expertise necessary to uncover the complete truth behind the assassination attempt.
The current task force is led by Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., who bring their own unique background to the investigation. Despite the presence of veterans and legal experts on the panel, Mills and Crane raised doubts about the selection process, citing political motivations behind the choices made.
While acknowledging the potential political implications of launching their own probe, Crane emphasized the importance of utilizing all available expertise to uncover the truth behind the assassination attempt. Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., supported the idea of engaging outside experts to ensure a comprehensive and unbiased investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, the involvement of experienced individuals like Crane and Mills could prove instrumental in shedding light on the events surrounding the attempted assassination of former President Trump. With a commitment to thoroughness and transparency, the parallel probe initiated by Crane and Mills aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
