House GOP wants to put in place measures to prevent illegal immigrants from voting in elections.
Speaker Mike Johnson of R-La recently unveiled new legislation designed to prevent non-citizens from participating in U.S. elections. The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act was introduced at a press conference held by Johnson at the base of the U.S. Capitol, with the bill’s co-sponsors, Rep. Chip Roy of R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Lee of R-Utah, also in attendance.
Johnson expressed concerns about the potential for a significant number of illegal immigrants to influence the outcome of U.S. elections. Former Trump administration officials Stephen Miller and Hogan Gidley were also present at the press conference, now affiliated with the conservative think tank America First Policy Institute.
