House Republican wants Garland to appoint special prosecutor to investigate Biden about delayed aid to Israel.

Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., recently raised concerns over President Biden’s delay in delivering military aid to Israel, prompting her to demand the appointment of a special counsel to investigate the matter.

Tenney wrote a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland expressing her dissatisfaction with the administration’s actions. She pointed out that on April 23, the House passed H.R. 8034, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024, which allocated funds to support Israel’s military operations against Hamas. Despite the urgency of delivering this aid, Tenney accused Biden of stalling the process and violating the Impoundment Control Act of 1974.

According to reports, the Biden administration had initially put a hold on sending 3,500 bombs to Israel, citing concerns for civilian casualties in Gaza. However, the administration later informed key lawmakers that it would be moving ahead with a $1 billion weapons shipment to Israel, separate from the delayed foreign aid package that was passed by Congress.

Both Democrats and Republicans have criticized Biden’s handling of military support for Israel. Some Democrats have urged Biden to limit transfers of offensive weapons to pressure Israel to protect Palestinian civilians, while Republicans argue that any reduction in support weakens Israel’s ability to combat Hamas and other Iran-backed groups.

In response to the administration’s pause on bomb transfers, House Republicans are planning to introduce a bill that would require the delivery of offensive weaponry to Israel.
