Hunter Biden’s lawyers may have him testify in gun trial, final decision to be made this weekend.

Attorneys for Hunter Biden, who is currently facing three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018, have hinted at the possibility of him testifying in his upcoming criminal trial set for next week. The trial has been ongoing, and the defense team, led by attorney Abbe Lowell, will make a decision over the weekend on whether Biden will take the stand as the final witness.

The charges against Hunter Biden include making false statements in the purchase of a gun, making false statements related to information required by a federally licensed gun dealer, and possession of a gun by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

Abbe Lowell’s ultimate decision on whether to call Hunter Biden to testify will be communicated to the office of Special Counsel David Weiss once it is reached. The announcement is scheduled for Monday around 8:15 a.m. ET when the court resumes its proceedings.

If Hunter Biden does indeed testify next week, it is anticipated that his direct testimony and cross-examination could occupy a significant portion, if not the entirety, of the day. The prosecution has hinted at the possibility of calling a rebuttal witness if Biden takes the stand, which would likely push the closing arguments and jury instructions to Tuesday.

Conversely, if Abbe Lowell indicates on Monday that Hunter Biden will not be testifying, the trial is expected to progress more swiftly. In that scenario, closing statements could commence on Monday after the court resumes, followed by jury instructions. This could potentially lead to the jury entering deliberations as early as Monday afternoon.

Hunter Biden has pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. In addition to the current trial, he has also pleaded not guilty to tax-related charges in another federal court case in California, which is also spearheaded by Special Counsel David Weiss.

The aggregate maximum prison sentence for the three charges Hunter Biden is facing could amount to 25 years, with each count carrying a maximum fine of $250,000 and three years of supervised release.

The decision regarding Hunter Biden’s potential testimony came after an emotional morning in court where his eldest daughter, Naomi Biden, provided testimony regarding her father’s struggles with addiction. Naomi confirmed under cross-examination that she was aware of her father’s past battles with addiction but stated that she had never witnessed him using drugs.

While Hunter Biden’s defense team does not dispute his history of addiction, which is extensively documented in his memoir “Beautiful Things,” they contend that at the time of the gun purchase in October 2018, Biden did not perceive himself as a user of illegal substances.

Throughout the week, other individuals close to Hunter Biden, such as Kathleen Buhle, his former wife and Naomi’s mother, Hallie Biden, his sister-in-law turned girlfriend, and Zoe Kestan, his ex-girlfriend and a former stripper, have also provided testimony in the trial.

As the case unfolds, the possibility of Hunter Biden taking the stand looms overhead, adding a layer of complexity and anticipation to the proceedings. The decision slated for Monday could potentially shape the course of the trial and its eventual outcome.
